Zhao Tingyin (趙廷隱) (883〔''Records of the Nine Kingdoms'' (九國志), (vol. 7 ).〕-January 949〔''Spring and Autumn Annals of the Ten Kingdoms'', (vol. 51 ).〕〔(Academia Sinica Chinese-Western Calendar Converter ).〕〔Zhao Tingyin died during the 11th year of Meng Chang's ''Guangzheng'' era — which largely corresponded to 948; however, it was stated that he died in the 12th lunar month of that year, which would correspond to January 2 to January 31, 949.〕), formally Prince Zhongwu of Song (宋忠武王), was a major general of the Chinese Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period state Later Shu.
== Background ==
Zhao Tingyin was born in 883, during the reign of Emperor Xizong of Tang.〔 He was from Kaifeng.〔〔The ''Records of the Nine Kingdoms'' actually indicated that Zhao was from Taiyuan, which the ''History of Song'' then implicitly adopted in the biography of his son Zhao Chongtao (趙崇韜). See ''History of Song'', vol. 479. However, given that it was unambiguous that he served in the Later Liang's army, a Taiyuan origin appeared unlikely (as Taiyuan was under the control of Later Liang's archrival Jin (Later Tang's predecessor state)), and therefore the ''Spring and Autumn Annals of the Ten Kingdoms'' account that he was from Kaifeng (Later Liang's capital) will be used here.〕 His early military career was in the Later Liang army, and he became an officer under the prominent general Wang Yanzhang.〔
